Several years ago, as the GJEF was evolving into a viable support organization to “Promote Excellence” throughout the district, our board expanded our focus and our core values to include providing support to the district pupil service staff through our Care For Kids Program. Through the generous support of the Gahanna Area Fund, a donation was designated to support the program. The funds have enabled building administrators, counselors and nurses to provide support to individual students in need of clothing items and school supplies.

As many may know, Harvey Mast was one of the most respected youth counselors in our community. Through his tenure at various churches and his role through the Gahanna Rotary, Harvey worked tirelessly in support of youth intervention projects and used his talents over and over to meet one on one with kids who needed a friend.

Much like Harvey’s approach, our Care for Kids Program flies under the radar allowing staff and administration a ready source to address special needs of our students.

A generous donation of $5,000 from Mr. Gary James of Dynalab allows GJEF the ability to establish an enduring tribute in memory and honor of one of the best friends our district ever had the opportunity to partner with.

Harvey truly lived the Christian and Gahanna Rotary motto of “Service Above Self.”
